Our Story

Canning Vale Prekindy began when a local early childhood teacher and a group of enthusiastic parents got together to share their vision for a place for the children of the community to play and learn together. After 2 years of meetings and sausage sizzles Canning Vale Prekindy opened its doors to children in April 2008 with parents in attendance until a licence to operate was granted in June the same year.

Starting with 2 morning sessions numbers grew quickly and 2 more sessions were opened in July the same year. The play based and child centred focus of the program proved highly successful and the word spread. In 2009 a fifth session was opened.

The Prekindy is now in its 18th year of operation. It has been nominated for numerous national awards for excellence in Early Years education including being finalists:

  • Early Childhood Service of the Year (2015)
  • Early Childhood Educator of the Year (Lisa Vreeken) (2015)
  • Excellence in Best Practice (2024)
  • Excellence in Outdoor Education (2024)
  • Outstanding Commitment to Reconciliation and Cultural Awareness (2025)

Canning Vale Prekindy has been assessed against the National Quality Standard twice – 2014 and 2019 and has achieved the rating of “Exceeding” the National Standard on both occasions. Exceeding National Standards is achieved when a service is deemed to go “above and beyond” what is required to meet the National Standard.
